180 Shopify Store Speed Statistics for 2026: Apps, Core Web Vitals & Conversion

The short version

What the evidence actually says

Shopify starts from a strong base. Your theme, media and apps still shape store speed. Fast stores tend to sell more, but a speed fix cannot promise more sales.

StackFit’s practical rule

Every app should earn both its subscription cost and its performance cost. This does not mean you should remove every app. Keep a lean stack that adds more value than cost, load and work.

01 / Commercial context

Faster stores tended to convert better.

Shopify found that fast stores tended to convert more. It did not prove that speed alone caused the gap.

02 / Shopify baseline

A real-user baseline, not a one-page score.

This is real user data from Shopify stores. A one-page lab test cannot give the same view.

An app can create value and still add performance cost.

Apps can add value and add load. The two Yottaa studies used different groups and dates.

08 / Shopify media evidence

Video can dominate weight without telling the whole LCP story.

Shopify found that one video can make up most of a page. It may not hurt each speed score in the same way.

Speed Index rose with video weight. Median LCP stayed roughly 4.2–5.1s across buckets because the video often was not the LCP element. Different metrics expose different problems.
What changed in July?

Shopify’s native below-the-fold video lazy loading produced 75% fewer pageviews loading video upfront and 78% less video data per pageview, saving 1.23MB on average.

How this resource was built

Methodology and limits

Selection

We began with 397 candidate rows in the supplied research database. We retained 180 distinct, non-duplicative findings that add a useful benchmark, denominator, method or decision constraint.

Live verification

Every current or priority claim was checked against its original page on 13 September 2026. August remains the latest CrUX month. Shopify’s 28 August Early Hints study is the newest relevant Performance @ Shopify publication.

Evidence boundaries

Shopify-only evidence, ecommerce vendor studies and all-web benchmarks are labelled separately. We do not present Lighthouse lab scores as field Core Web Vitals, or correlations as guaranteed causal uplift.

Counting

Each published row has one stable ID, one value and one defined finding. Before/after values count separately only where each is independently useful for citation. We do not count prose repetitions or chart labels again.

Download the complete 180-row CSV with periods, caveats, source URLs and stable StackFit permalinks. Read how StackFit evaluates apps or browse the Tapita SEO & Speed fit guide.

Plain-English answers

Shopify store speed questions

How fast is the average Shopify store?

Shopify measured real visits from 14 January to 10 February 2026. The median LCP was 1.108 seconds. At p75, it was 1.884 seconds. These are broad figures, so your store may differ.

What is a good Shopify store speed?

Aim for an LCP of 2.5 seconds or less. Keep INP at 200ms or less and CLS at 0.1 or less. Check your key pages on both mobile and desktop.

Does Shopify speed affect conversion?

Fast stores tended to convert more in Shopify’s 2026 study. Each extra 100ms of LCP came with about 3.5% lower conversion. This is a link, not proof of cause. Price, product and traffic still matter.

Is Shopify faster than WooCommerce?

In one 2025 field study, 76% of Shopify sites passed all three Core Web Vitals. The rates for WooCommerce were 33% on desktop and 35% on mobile. This was not a controlled test.

Do Shopify apps slow down a store?

Some apps add load. Others have little effect. Test before and after each change. Keep an app when the value it adds is worth its cost and its effect on speed.

How can I find which Shopify app is slowing my store?

Start with Shopify’s real user speed report. Find the page, device and metric with an issue. Test one app at a time. Do not remove several apps in one test.

Should I install a Shopify speed optimisation app?

Not by default. First find the cause. It may be your theme, an image, a video or one app. Buy a tool only when you know which job it must do.

Is PageSpeed Insights the same as Shopify’s speed report?

No. PageSpeed Insights tests one URL in a lab. It may also show field data. Shopify’s report tracks real store visits over time. Use both, but do not mix them up.

What is the biggest Shopify page-speed problem?

There is no single cause. Large images, theme code, scripts and video can all hurt speed. Test the slow page before you choose a fix.

How often should Shopify speed be checked?

Check the trend each week. Test after a major theme, app or media change. Review the whole stack every three months. Use 28 days of field data for big choices when you can.

Do Core Web Vitals guarantee better Google rankings?

No. Google uses page speed as one part of search. A good score does not promise a high rank. Your page must still give people the best answer.

What should I measure before removing an app?

Note what the app earns or saves. Add its price and the work it needs. Test the pages it touches. Then keep, change, swap or remove it.
